Can a wearable track emotion? How InTruth aims to train your emotional intelligence

We speak to InTruth founder Nicole Gibson about how a wearable can track emotion

When we talk emotion-tracking wearables, I’ll forgive you for rolling your eyes.

After all, wearables have barely made sense of stress, so how could they ever interpret how we feel?

Enter InTruth – the self-proclaimed world’s first emotion tracker, and one aiming to offer a window into our feelings.

We have had vague attempts at consumer-facing emotion tracking before. Notably, Amazon Halo offered some insights into emotional valence via its Live Tone voice analysis, but its existence was short-lived - thanks in part to it being, well, creepy.

Instead, InTruth is set to roll out to first responders – and could land as part of the Oscar Kilo program with the UK Police, which we reported on last month.

For this week’s PULSE Podcast, we spoke to Nicole Gibson, the founder of InTruth, who explains how the company can track emotion via a wearable PPG sensor with ‘clinical-grade accuracy.’

She explained the difference between emotion and feeling, how to create an experience that lets users personalize their experience by how they interpret emotions, and the personal struggles with mental health that led her to create InTruth.

InTruth is currently negotiating its Series A and has raised $2.5m so far. It’s launching a B2B offering and is looking to go B2C in 2025. There’s likely to be a public beta in the next few months.
